Please take a look at the below example describing the specific issue with how PDF's inserted into OneNote using the 'Send to Onenote Printer' have some issue with render quality.
This happens with all types of PDF's in my experience over the past year.
It is not the PDF document that is the issue, because if you zoom in 200% the inserted image in OneNote does ultimately render in very high resolution/quality (sometimes it takes a while ~10sec to render properly)
..this means that the data for high resolution is there in the onenote page, the problem is when you zoom out it gets all pixelated.
See the image below. The weird thing is that if you screen clip the PDF page (or convert it into a JPEG) and drop it into OneNote this rendering issue doesn't happen (i.e. the document retains its quality at lower zooms e.g. 90%). Only the pages from a PDF that have been virtually printed to OneNote using the 'Send to OneNote' printer exhibit this poor quality rendering in lower zoom.
Obviously it is unpractical to have to screen clip every page of a PDF to be able to mark it up..and the data for high resolution is there.
..this is why I think there must be a relatively easy fix to this.
